Home Energy Audits
A free energy audit
is a great way to find out if your home can benefit from energy
efficiency improvements. However, in order to be eligible for
incentives and benefits from your local power company, a Certified Home
Performance with
ENERGY STAR Assessment may be
required. This is a technically exhaustive assessment of your home
using state-of-the-art equipment such as blower doors, duct blasters
and thermal imaging equipment, which reveal hard-to-detect areas of air
infiltration and missing insulation. Recommendations for comprehensive
improvements that will yield the best results are included in the
assessment. Georgia Power requires this certified assessment for its'
consumer incentive program. Many of these improvements are
eligible for rebates or other incentives from your local power company.

Energy
Efficiency Adds Value to Your Home
A
study published in the Appraisal
Journal documented
that the market value of a home increases $20 for every $1 decrease in
the annual energy costs. According to a recent analysis by the Pacific
Northwest National Laboratory building a home to exceed the Model
Energy Code would result in an annual savings of $170 to $425. Applying
these findings to the analysis published in the Appraisal Journal would
equate to an increased home market value of between $4,250 to $10,625.
